My day started around 7:30 when I got up to get ready so we could leave by 8:30. It doesn’t take me an hour to get ready, honest! Just when you have 5 people that have to shower in one shower in the morning that doesn’t work. Breakfast was fruit and bread (roll like bread) with stuff in the middle, like pineapple and coconut stuff and hot dog stuff. Our first adventure was to get on the bus and then walk to the museum that we were going to! They thought that the museum opened at 9:00 so we left that early to get in so we would have a lot of time to see it but the museum didn’t open till 10:00. So we walked all the way to the museum and it was closed so we walked around Hong Kong for a little bit and got to see some cool sights (pretty much just buildings and stuff. When the museum opened we went in and looked around, it was a history museum so that was kinda cool to see HK history.
yep, this was in the museum. |
she's a queen and her husband is a prince? how does that work? |
Side note: buildings in Asia are different then in the US because they are built vertically not horizontally. For instance, this museum wasn’t very wide but it was 4 or 5 floors. Also, the malls are normally 10 or so floors high but not very long.
After walking through the museum, sleeping in the museum, scaring people, taking “same as” pictures, taking “awkward family photos”, and going to the bathroom we left the museum. Only to go to our next stop… STARBUCKS! Well, actually first we got some HK specialty snacks; they were so delicious. First, we ate this really good waffle with cream and peanut butter on it, which made it warm and gooey and amazing. Second, we had this amazing bubbly pancake thing. I think the English translation of the Chinese name is something like “little eggs.” Imagine tons of little eggs made out of pancake batter stuck together but you can break it off. I don’t know how else to describe it but it was definitely a favorite!! Then off to...
After spending some nice relaxing time in Starbucks we walked a really long way to a ferry. The walk was long but it was a really good sightseeing walk. We walked along the water so the whole we were looking at Hong Kong island. They made it very tourist friendly with their version of the Hollywood walk of fame. There were stars on the ground with people’s names on them. Not gonna lie, it was a pretty amazing walk!
Finally, we got to the ferry that was going to take us over to Hong Kong Island. The ferry was really nauseating, but that’s okay because I didn’t puke. Once we got over there we met Camellia’s other Aunt who was going to take us around the island. First, she took us to the IFC building which is the tallest building on Hong Kong Island. On the lower floors it was a really nice mall, I’m not sure what the higher floors were because I didn’t go up.
After we went up the IFC building we got on another bus and went to the top of a mountain. They called it Victoria’s peak, the view was so amazing! I was very happy with it :) We stayed up there for a while and looked at the view. Going down we took the tram, which was awesome because it was downhill and we didn’t have a seat so we had to hold on really tightly to not fall all over people. Plus, while we were going down Jared wanted me to cleverly take a picture of him and this other guy without the guy knowing. Yea, that takes talent because we had to change positions, going downhill, on a crowded tram.
When we got off the mountain we had to get on another bus to go to Camellia’s Grandma’s house. We should up close to her house to early which meant we had more time that we had to walk around. We got some frozen yogurt that was pretty delicious and we went to another mall and just walked around the streets of Hong Kong.
At 6:30 we went to Camellia’s Grandma’s house for dinner. That meal was so good! Her Uncle is a cook so he made us really good food. We had 2 different kind of mien (or noodles for you who don’t know Chinese), this really good pineapple chicken, what I’m gonna call a pork taco, shrimp, some veggies, and this good melon thing. It was melon juice with cornstarch deep fried; I was impressed with the deliciousness! We stayed and hung out at their house until we went and got on a bus and went home.
